Der Film beleuchtet seinen Weg zu diesem Job und erzählt von seiner Kindheit, seine ersten Jobs im Fernsehen und beim Film und wie Clash schließlich zum Puppenspieler von Elmo wird. Auch zeigt der Film, dass das Spielen von Elmo mehr als nur ein Job ist. Kevin Clash ist in gewisser Weise Elmo.
